Missions Update – 7/15

After a month of receiving contributions, the Providence United Methodist Church missions committee sent $3,700 to the Mzuzu Baptist Church of Mzuzu, Malawi, to assist them in creating a sewing machine ministry. This project will allow the twenty widows in their church to learn a trade and support themselves and their families. The funds will purchase ten machines, pay for training by two experienced tailors, and provide materials such as cloth, thread, and buttons.

On Thursday, July 7th, the church received the funds. On Friday, July 8th, their project committee met and finalized plans. On Saturday, July 9th, they purchased the ten sewing machines and had them delivered to the church. A technician assembled eight of them before the Sunday, July 10th service. Even though two machines had not yet been assembled, the committee was so excited that they dedicated the assembled machines to God at each of their two Sunday services. In the pictures we see the members of the committee joining the Rev. Francis Kisebe (the tall man in the blue suit) in dedicating the machines and the project to God and displaying these new tools of ministry for the congregation. Below is a letter we received Monday from Rev. Francis expressing his church’s appreciation to Providence for its generosity.

Our Dear Beloved Brethren in Christ,
We convey our warm greetings from your brothers and sisters in Christ from Mzuzu Baptist
Church in Mzuzu, Malawi. Our country is a peaceful, land-locked nation whose people have
warm hearts but live in poverty. Brethren, with sincere hearts we want to thank you for the good thing we have been hoping for but knew of no way to achieve. Through you, God has done it. On Sunday, we had a big celebration and prayers of thanksgiving when we broke the news to the congregation that we had received your assistance.

Brethren, as we receive your gifts to purchase these ten sewing machines, we want to assure you that all has been put in place, and we hope to see much fruit, and through this project lives will be saved. Soon we will launch our training now that the machines have been dedicated to the Lord.

Lastly, be blessed with I John 3:16-17: “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for
us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister and yet refuses to help?” God’s love is what you have shown to us in this very practical way. We pray that you will remain blessed and continue to touch many lives through such initiatives.

My warmest regards,
Pastor Francis Kisebe
