Frequently Asked Questions
What to expect on your first visit.
What should I expect during worship?
We have a casual, traditional style of worship. Our sanctuary is a comfortable place to gather, with cushioned chairs and space to move about. During worship, we will sing hymns, pray the Lord’s Prayer, recite the Apostles’ Creed, and receive communion once a month. Our Pastor will read scripture and preach from the selected text each week.
What should I wear?
Whatever you find most comfortable. On a typical Sunday, you will see people in anything from jeans and T-shirts to dress pants with a sports coat.
Where do I go once I’m inside?
We have greeters who will meet you at the door, answer your questions and direct you where you need to go for worship, nursery and Sunday School.
What should I do with my kids?
When you arrive, greeters will be glad to direct you to the age-appropriate classrooms for your children during the Sunday School hour. Kids are always welcome to remain with their parents during the worship service. A highlight of each service is the children’s moment, when children are invited to come to the altar steps for a special children’s message – one that adults enjoy, as well! After the children’s message, children ages 3 to 2nd grade may leave for Children’s Worship, where they will learn Bible stories, play, and build friendships. During the closing hymn, they will be brought back into the sanctuary to rejoin their parents.
A nursery is offered for newborns through children aged 3 during Sunday School and worship. All nursery-aged children will need to have a parent or legal guardian sign their child in and out of the nursery.
Providence is a Safe Sanctuaries® church, meaning our children’s programs follow the policies and procedures established by the United Methodist Church to assure your children’s safety.
